Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President of India at the western end of Rajpath in New Delhi, India. Rashtrapati Bhavan may refer to only the mansion (the 340-room main building) or the entire 320-acre (130 ha) President Estate. The main palace building was formerly known as Viceroy's House.

Historical Significance

Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker, construction began in 1912 and was completed in 1929. Originally built as the Viceroy's House during British rule, it became the residence of the Governor-General of India and later the President of India after independence.
